MRI belongs to the category of Medical Imaging technology that specifically deals with producing clear and detailed images of the internal organs. The MRI scanner does this with the help o f strong radio waves and a magnetic field. MRI scanners are used actively for a vast array of medical applications.

Breast cancer is cancer that develops from breast tissue. Risk factors for developing breast cancer include being female, obesity , a lack of physical exercise, alcoholism , hormone replacement therapy during menopause , ionizing radiation , an early age at first menstruation , having children late in life or not at all, older age, having a prior history of breast cancer, and a family history of breast cancer. The balance of benefits versus harms of breast cancer screening is controversial. A Cochrane review found that it was unclear if mammographic screening does more harm than good, in that a large proportion of women who test positive turn out not to have the disease. Outcomes for breast cancer vary depending on the cancer type, the extent of disease , and the person's age.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Hubert is a Radiology Resident and Dr. Ultrasound is the imaging modality of choice for the female pelvis. High-resolution imaging of transvaginal ultrasound provides high diagnostic accuracy for pelvic pathology. The American College of Radiology has provided guidelines for when ultrasound is an appropriate imaging tool Table 1 for the evaluation of the female pelvis. With its high contrast resolution, its ability to provide good tissue characterization, and its multiplanar imaging capabilities, magnetic resonance imaging MRI is increasingly used to evaluate pelvic pathology Table 2.
Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, is a way of obtaining detailed images of organs and tissues throughout the body without the need for x-rays or "ionizing" radiation. Instead, MRI uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves, rapidly changing magnetic fields, and a computer to create images that show whether or not there is an injury, disease process, or abnormal condition present. For the MRI exam, the patient is placed inside of the MR system or scanner—typically a large donut-shaped device that is open on both ends. The powerful magnetic field aligns atomic particles called protons that exist in most body tissues. The applied radio waves then interact with these protons to produce signals that are picked up by a receiver within the MR scanner.
